Node.js is an application infrastructure for building distributed, networked applications. Designed as a “construction kit” for modern web applications, node utilizes JavaScript language features such as evented I/O and closures to build highly reliable, highly concurrent applications. Now entering the mainstream, node is positioned to complement (or supplant) mature technologies like PHP, Java/Tomcat and Rails. On Thursday evening (6:30PM on the 26th of January, 2012) CruzioWorks will host the inaugural meeting of the Santa Cruz Environs Node Enthusiasts (SCENE). Meadhbh Hamrick will organize the evening and provide an introductory presentation entitled “A 15 Minute Introduction to Node.JS.” Aimed at “technical non-specialists,” she will also be on hand to answer more general questions for other audiences. There is no cost associated with the event [thank you for hosting, Cruzio.] Participants will receive a virtual appliance preconfigured with Node.JS and several popular middle-ware libraries. CruzioWorks is located at 877 Cedar St. in Santa Cruz, CA. Parking structures and street parking is available in the neighborhood. Enter through the front entrance at the corner of Cedar and Church Streets. |
